  • Item description
  • I’m Riley. I’ve been working as a cinematographer/DP full-time for over five years.

This work takes me to some sometimes unexpected places and introduces me to a lot of different people and industries. One day I’m shooting a commercial in an AirBnb with a crew of 20+ people; the next week it’s 3am in the desert, I’m working on a short film and wondering if it could get any colder and dustier (this short film does earn me a ticket to Europe to some film festivals woohoo).

Through my experience working with different agencies and B2B; I’ve developed a template that can serve virtually every industry. Ranging from agricultural production, industrial fabrication and even retail or office work.

Around half my jobs come from advertising agencies or production companies tasked with creating video content for a business/council/organisation.

These range from; a new campaign launch, delivering a new product/service to market, a case study for a third party supplier, or the business simply delivering their story.

  • This is by no means the final solution to professional video production.

At the smaller end; this could be all the video you need for a few years. Supplementary to incidental phone content piece to cameras.

At the larger end; this model can work as a video library to run your entire business. Capturing and archiving new content on a recurring quarterly basis.

If you’re a producer at an agency or production company; a marketing manager for a large corporation or even the sole owner/operator of a small business, this is designed for you.

Some examples include; farming, tourism operators, wine industry, construction, real estate, education, retail & hospitality. The list goes on.

  • Everyone knows the feeling, client and creators alike; you’ve almost finished an edit. Just waiting on one more shot from the client that someone is trying to dig up.

Finally it arrives… in the form of a 720p YouTube link from 6 years ago.

Even if it was higher quality, it has a big outdated logo in the middle of the shot and a saturated, contrasty colour grade baked in.
You could try to find the original creator and see if they’ve hung onto that original file for all these years but this will inevitably add time and budget that you can’t afford.

Just like the last time, you’re forced to settle for ‘good enough’ on this project.

It can’t be helped; or can it…

  • LOW RESOLUTION

Standard 1080p deliveries are around 4x and 40x lower data quality than original capture.

    FRAME RATE MISMATCH

Sometimes the US standard of 29.97 frames is used in Australia. This results In stuttering and frame skips that can be distracting.

    LOW BITRATE

Web compression looks noisy, blocky and falls apart the moment you try to push any of your own colour grade onto it.

  • TOO SHORT
You need a 5-second breather in the edit but the only clip we have is a 2 second shot from a previous edit.

    TOO SPECIFIC
The footage is focussed on something from an old campaign and doesn’t match what we’re needing it to well enough.

  • HEAVY COLOUR GRADES
The footage looks good but has a colour grade baked in that won’t be consistent with the tone of this new edit.

    BURNED IN ASSETS
Logos, titles, information overlays and subtitles force you to crop an already low resolution image rendering it unusable.

  • DIGITAL GRAVEYARD
The file exists but is buried so far back in a link (that may or may not work) on an email thread that it may as well not.

    YOUTUBE TO MP4 CONVERTER
Downloading from your own YouTube is the last resort taking us back to our first pain point; image quality.

THE PROBLEM(S)

  • We go over what is important for you to have covered and how the shoot will run. Making sure we’re aligned with what's important for you to capture and keep future proofed.
We’ll discuss a few styles of shooting and work out what’s right for you.

  • At minimum, you’re hiring a cinematographer and their camera package.
    Depending on the project, we have options for;
    - Aerial video/photo
    - Stills photography
    - Gaffer/lighting van
    - Secondary video camera
    - Interview packages

  • We’ll deliver an approx. 90 second edit.
Designed for internal use; this acts as a snapshot of what we captured during the day as a reference for yourself and anyone else who might need to work with the footage.

  • All footage is refined down to the best bits. Removing any false takes, heads and tails trimmed off and delivered in a variety of formats.

    EASE OF USE

Organised & categorised catalogue for Mac & Windows, if you can use a computer you’ll find it easy to use.

Suitable for working in any editing software - Premiere, Resolve, CapCut, even Instagram. This collection ensures there will always be a version of the footage that suits your needs.

LOG - Flat colour profile to deliver to other video agencies. This gives them the most flexibility possible with the footage.

REC709 - Standard contrast and saturation for quickly adding to a project. Perfectly fine to edit and add your own look to if you don’t want to deal with colouring LOG.

GRADED - Film-like image quality with rich colour density and texture.

    LOW RES & HIGH RES

When delivering to other video workers, you should always send the highest resolution LOG footage but if you just need to quickly post something online or send previews over Google Drive, something smaller can be fine.

Your 4K files will be exported as individual clips and your 1080 will exist as a single H265 file with timecode and file name burned in - perfect for quickly scrubbing through to find the right shot.

    HIGH IMAGE FIDELITY

I provide high resolution, stable footage with plenty of flexibility for cropping verticals for socials.
Deep colour depth for grading flexibility - no longer limited by whatever colour grade the last person slapped on.

  • All content is stored & delivered on physical media as well as low res versions via a Google Drive link.

The amount of footage is dictated by a number of factors but could be anywhere from 50-200+ short clips per shoot day.
All dependent on locations, budget and scope of the project.

    You’ll receive:
1x SSD - faster for editing & transfers - can even plug into most modern phones!
1x HDD - slower, cost effective backup for archive and safety

Each of these drives contains your footage in the following formats:
    LOG / 4K / ProRes 422
    Rec709 / 4K & 1080 / ProRes 422 & H.265
    Graded / 4K & 1080 / ProRes 422 & H.265

As well as a simple PDF guide with recommendations on what each file type is best suited for.

THE SOLUTION

EXAMPLE OF LOG / REC709 / GRADED

  • This is the tip of the iceberg.

Not only are you now insured from not having the right footage - you now have a stock library that you can use for anything.

You don’t need to settle for less with a video project. Don’t need to hunt through stock footage libraries to find something that’s kind of what you need.

    Some more examples;

You make a few Instagram reels in CapCut every week for your winery. Instead of finding old edits or trying to capture something yourself, you’ve got access to a wide array of tailored content that you can cut into your edit. Talking about one of the vineyards that you’ve started harvesting? Cut to a lovely drone shot of that.

Need to explain some technical aspect of your manufacturing business for a case study? We’ve got that recorded in a whole sequence from different angles.

Submitting a video for industry awards? With no budget or time to shoot anything, it’s lucky you’ve got this hard drive up your sleeve! Send it to any editor (us included) for transformation into a finished product.

  • Every project is different so we don't have a ‘one price fits all’ model.
You only pay for what you need.

Rather than a fixed cost, labour and equipment are separated.

If we’re not bringing a certain lens set to a shoot, why are you effectively paying for it in a fixed rate?

  • Yes! I still absolutely work on larger scale commercial & narrative projects. Vivarium is a packaged product that addresses a need in the industry.
It works in tandem with my regular freelance operations.
